Dialectic as the «Gene»-ral Theory of 'Self-Elaborating [sub-]Totalities' -- Part 04: Seldon on the Record Series.

Dear Reader,

It is my pleasure, and my honor, as a member of the Foundation Encyclopedia Dialectica [F.E.D.] General Council, and as a voting member of F.E.D., to share, with you, from time to time, as they are approved for public release by the F.E.D. General Council, key excerpts from the internal writings, and from the internal sayings, of our co-founder, Karl Seldon.

The fourth release in this new such series is posted below [Some E.D. standard edits have been applied, in the version presented below, by the editors of the F.E.D. Special Council for the Encyclopedia, to the direct transcript of our co-founder’s discourse].

In this 4th installment, Seldon describes the self-elaborating character of dialectical sub-totalities, as of the dialectical totality of cosmological Nature itself.

Seldon --

Dialectics is also the general theory of

‘self-elaboration’, of ‘self-elaborating systems’, of our ‘self-elaborating’ known universe as the totality, and of its constituent ‘partially self-elaborating’ sub-totalities.”

“In the form of systematic dialectic, such ‘self-elaboration’ is presented as a categorial progression, of ontological categories, presented in systematic, taxonomic order, starting from the simplest/most abstract ontological category inherent in the [sub-]totality being presented, and ending with the most complex, most determinations-rich category of that progression of categories, that presently-final category also inhering in that [sub-]totality, presently.

Between them is presented a step-by-step, category-by-category exposition of the other inherent categories of that present [sub-]totality, presented in the consecutive order of their increasing complexity/determinateness.

This form of dialectic presents an already-existent, historically-present [sub-]totality in its present moment(s) [e.g., presents the ‘‘‘moment(s)’’’ throughout that [sub-]totality’s present historical-ontological epoch].”

“In the form of historical dialectic, the past-to-present ‘self-elaboration’ of the given [sub-]totality is re-constructed as the self-actualization(s) of a potential immanent in even the oldest, the chronologically first ontological category of the historical-ontological, chronological categorial progression narration of the story of that [given sub-]totality, recounted in ‘chrono-taxonomic’ order, and possibly including a ‘symbolic pre-construction’ of expected future, new [[ideo-]physio-]ontology inhering in that [sub-]totality as part of its remaining «potentia». ...
