‘Categorial SELF-Combinatorics’.
-- Part 07: Seldon’s Secrets’ Series.
Dear Reader,
It
is my pleasure,
and my honor, as an elected member
of the Foundation Encyclopedia
Dialectica [F.E.D.] General Council, and as a voting member of F.E.D., to share, with you, from time to time, as they are approved for public release, by the F.E.D. General Council, key excerpts from the internal writings, and from the internal sayings, of our co-founder,
Karl Seldon.
This seventh release in
this new such
series is posted below
[Some E.D.
standard edits have been applied, in the version presented below, by the editors of
the F.E.D. Special Council for the Encyclopedia,
to the direct transcript of our co-founder’s
discourse].
In this 7th installment, Seldon briefly describes the oft-unnoticed dialectical
cruciality of categorial ‘self-combinings’, representing the
combinings of units of the same categorial kind into new, higher units,
demanding new, higher ontological categories to represent them.
Seldon –
“…When some portion of a multitude of units of a given kind – units that
are implied by the very concept of a given ontological category,
as well as by the very [plural] name of such a category – interact intensively,
and, as a result, ‘self-combine’/-combine with one another, or
are combined by the action of an external agent, a new kind of units are
created.”
“These new
units need a new category, and a new [plural] category-name, to encompass them aptly
for human minds.”
“This ontological ‘self-combining’ of units, creating ‘“new numbers”’ of units, i.e., new «arithmoi», is the fundamental form of the «aufheben» process in natural history – including in human history. …”
