In this 12th installment, Seldon asks the question “What Good is Genius?”, and offers his answer.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Seldon –

 

“¿Of what human good is human genius, if it does not serve – if it merely “shows off”?”

“¿If it does not serve to enrich the lives of others, and to augment their ecstasy, their joy of life?”

“¿If it does not enhance the life-joy of other humans – of geniuses and non-geniuses alike, or of those who have not yet discovered their own unique genius, life- mission, life-purpose, life-gift, and life-meaning?”

“¿Of what human good is human genius if it is not a gift that, of itself, gives of itself to others -- to humanity, and, even if in a seemingly miniscule, merely mesocosmic way, to our cosmos as a whole?”

Dear Reader,

In volume I of the Harvard University Press, Belknap Press edition of the COLLECTED PAPERS OF CHARLES SAUNDERS PEIRCE, entitled “PRINCIPLES OF PHILSOPHY”, in its CHAPTER 3, from some circa 1890 drafts of a work to be entitled “A GUESS AT THE RIDDLE” [referencing the Sphinx], in the section labeled “1. TRICHOTOMY”, which starts from page 181, and on page 183, as paragraph number 356, we find a formulation that rings somewhat like a highly-condensed version of the opening of Hegel’s dialectical «Logik».

 

C. S. Peirce --

“The first is that whose being is simply in itself, not referring to anything nor lying behind anything.” 

 

“The second is that which is what it is by force of something to which it is second.”

 

“The third is that which what it is owing to things between which it mediates and which it brings into relation to each other.”

In this 10th installment, Seldon describes the first two ‘ideo-ontos’ of the dialectic of the four main interpretations of the Seldonian First Arithmetic for Dialectic.

 

 

Seldon –

 

“. . . (1) The systematic-dialectical, synchronic [‘micro-diachronic] interpretation of an _NQ-arithmetical/algebraic, ‘v-adic’ [‘upsilon-adic’] ‘meta-model’, e.g., generically, for v = 2 –

 

-- yields a ‘dialectical taxonomy’[/high-level-ontological-categories’ encyclopedia], i.e., a systematic ontological-categorial classification/‘sortal snapshot’ of that meta-model’s Domain, with that Domain here generically/algebraically denoted by D.”  

 

“. . . (2) The historical-dialectical, [macro-]diachronic interpretation of an _NQ-arithmetical/algebraic, ‘v-adic’ [‘upsilon-adic’] ‘meta-model’, e.g., generically, for v = 2 –

 

-- yields a ‘dialectical meta-genealogy’ that is also an ontological chronology for its Domain, D.”

 

The two ‘dialectograms’ which follow illustrate the views stated above generically, but specific to the upsilon = 2 case, i.e., for the case of the ‘Dyadic self-reflexive function’, and up to the third stage/8^th ontological category per that ‘self-reflexive function’/‘self-involution function’.
