“Cosmological Inflation” and
‘Contra-Occamian Inflation’.
Dear Reader,
In his 2019 book Einstein’s Monsters: The
Life and Times of Black Holes, Chris Impey writes [p. 149] –
“There’s some observational support for [M.D.: the hypothesis of early
cosmological ]inflation,
but still no good theory for what caused it.”
But, suppose that, rather than positing, e.g., a so-far entirely
imaginary “inflaton field”, we give our speculations a little shave with Occam’s
razor?
Suppose that we consider that the so-called “Dark Energy”, which
names the still-unknown-in-detail cause of the presently-observed
acceleration of the rate of expansion of the ‘‘‘radius’’’ and ‘‘‘volume’’’ of our
observable-universe, was also the cause of the early rapid expansion of the ‘‘‘size’’’
of our universe.
What if “Dark Energy” is such that, while unopposed by the “gravity”
of, especially, so-called “Dark Matter”, in the very early universe, before any
“Dark Matter” yet existed, it drives an accelerating rate of universe ‘“radius”’ expansion
that by far exceeds the speed of light, but that does eventually exceed a finite
limiting rate, and that the breaching of that rate limit in fact precipitates “Dark
Matter” itself, as a form of “damaged space” – damaged by that very excess in
the rate of universe expansion. Suppose further
that this irruption of “Dark Matter” leads later to a first birth of “normal”, ‘Bright
Matter’.
Suppose that the “gravity” of “Dark Matter” [and of ‘Bright Matter’]
initially decelerates that “Dark Energy”-driven universe expansion rate.
However, if the “energy-density” of “Dark Energy” remains
constant in each increment of new space that it adds to the universe, but
gravitating “Dark Matter” and ‘Bright Matter’ are progressively diluted by each
such increment, then suppose that the accelerated universe expansion therefore eventually
resumes, because the gravitating mass becomes insufficient to restrain it from
so re-accelerating, in a way similar to the way in which it accelerated in the “inflationary”
beginning.
If so, then we might conjecture that, eventually, the accelerating
rate of this ‘second accelerated expansion’ of the universe might eventually reach
a rate which again exceeds the finite limit of the universe expansion rate,
beyond which a new infusion – or ‘efusion’ – of/into the universe, of a new
increment of “Dark Matter”, leading later also to a second birth of another
increment of ‘Bright Matter’, will eventually ensue.
If so, then we have a cosmological hypothesis of expanding
self-regeneration of universe “free energy”, one that escapes the mechanistic,
linear-extrapolative obsessions with “Entropic Doom”, with “Big Crunches” or “Big
Rips”, etc., that have so far imprisoned and exhausted the hypothesizing imaginations
of main stream physicists.
