Part 03: ‘Seldon’s
Dialectics’ Series.
Hegel’s Dialectic of BEING – a Set-Theoretical
RE-Interpretation.
Dear Reader,
It
is my pleasure,
and my honor, as an elected member
of the Foundation Encyclopedia
Dialectica [F.E.D.] General Council, and as a voting member of F.E.D., to share, with you, from time to time, as they are approved for public release by the F.E.D. General Council, key excerpts from the internal writings, and from the internal sayings, of our co-founder,
Karl Seldon.
This 3rd release of
this new such
series is posted below
[Some E.D.
standard edits have been applied, in the version presented below, by the editors
of the F.E.D. Special Council for the Encyclopedia,
to the direct transcript of our co-founder’s
discourse].
Seldon
--
“The opening
triad of Hegel’s [dialectical] Science of Logic is the categorial
progression which we notate as --
“BEING --) NOTHING --) BECOMING.”
“We
see the intelligibility of this dialectical categorial progression – often seen
as a ‘convolute’ rather than as an ‘evolute’ categories-progression -- as
enhanced by a view that was not
accessible, as such, to Hegel: a -- finitary -- set-theoretical re-interpretation.”
“If we look at this set “under
the hood”, from its "inside" – from under the “outer envelope”, enclosing its set-elements – of this “Set
of all Beings”, we see the vast plenitude, the
overwhelming diversity, the unfathomable, cornucopic -- albeit still finitary -- plenteousness
of past, of present, and of expected/predicted future beings of all
kinds, sub-kinds, sub-sub-kinds,
etc. That is, we see the “extension”
of the set named BEING.”
“On the
contrary, if we look at the “hood” itself, i.e., at the enclosing boundary, of the
set named BEING -- if we look at this set from its “outside”, attempting to
grasp the unitary “intension” of this set, the quality
which every last element of this set exhibits in common with every other
element of this set, then we can discern only NOTHING – we see a “quality” diluted, attenuated, rarefied, by this vast
diversity of distinct qualities, to a vanishing, ineffable degree.”
“Our itinerary, in
our ensuing junketing back and forth, between the “inside” view and the “outside”
view of this set -- between this set’s “extension” and its
“intension”; our self-re-iterated jumping from BEING to NOTHING, and then back to BEING again, and then back to NOTHING again . . . is captured, summarized,
and stabilized in the set named BECOMING, which unifies all of our, potentially
endless, oscillations of “Ceasing BEING”, or Going [back] to NOTHING, and [then/next] “Coming [back] to BE[ING] [back from NOTHING].”
