‘First Dialectic Algebra’:
‘Univocalization’ as Solution.
-- Part 05: Seldon’s Secrets Series.
Dear Reader,
It
is my pleasure,
and my honor, as an elected member
of the Foundation Encyclopedia
Dialectica [F.E.D.] General Council, and as a voting member of F.E.D., to share, with you, from time to time, as they are approved for public release, by the F.E.D. General Council, key excerpts from the internal writings, and from the internal sayings, of our co-founder,
Karl Seldon.
The fifth
release in
this new such
series is posted below
[Some E.D.
standard edits have been applied, in the version presented below, by the editors of
the F.E.D. Special Council for the Encyclopedia,
to the direct transcript of our co-founder’s
discourse].
In this 5th installment, Seldon describes what we mean by ‘univocalization’ as the form of solution
for the dialectical-algebraic unknown terms arising in our
‘First Arithmetic/Algebra for Dialectic’.
Seldon --
“Our
strictest criterion for the solution of a ‘category-symbol’ term -- generated
in a dialectical-algebraic equation by the algorithmic categories-progression
expansion from the single, initial «arché» ontological category of
a given Domain --
is what we term ‘univocalization’.”
“The
“raw” category-representing terms, generated by such algorithmic categorial
series expansion from the single «arché» category, are typically ‘bi-vocal’
– or even more ‘multi-vocal’ than ‘bi’ – in the sense that they involve two or
more subscript epithets, or categorial determinations,
subscripted to their q generic arithmetical qualifier ‘meta-numeral’
component.”
“The
comprehension of the qualitative
meaning of such an initially ‘‘‘algebraic unknown’’’ ‘category-symbol’
-- the semantic comprehension or ‘semantification’ of that symbol -- is
signified when the modeler is able to express the meaning of the joining
together of those multiple subscripted epithets or determinations by a single
word name -- or via a single phrase -- that aptly ‘character-izes’ that algebraic
“character”-complex.”
“Such
comprehension is signified by taking a single key letter – perhaps the initial
letter – from that word or phrase, and replacing the two or more subscript, or ‘denominated’,
epithets with that single-letter epithet in the subscript, or ‘‘‘denominator’’’
– in the ‘specifier component’ -- to that q generic arithmetical qualifier ‘meta-numeral’
component.”
“The
capability for this ‘univocalization’ of the initially ‘multi-vocal’ should
always be sought in the effort to solve such a categorial series dialectical-algebraic
equation. However, after that is
achieved, there are cases, in our work, where then returning back
to the ‘bi-vocal’ or even more ‘multi-vocal’ version of the ‘category-symbol’,
that has already been solved for, can be highly instructive.”
“Consider
the following examples…”
