‘The Systematic Dialectic of Algorithmicities vs. Heuristicities’.
Dear Reader,
The purpose of this blog-entry, is to call
your attention to the dialectical interconnexion
among the ‘ideo-ontological’ categories that, respectively,
represent cases of algorithmic methods of solution of general classes of
problems, cases of heuristic methods of solution, and cases of what we call
‘algorithmic heuristic’ or ‘heuristic algorithmic’ methods of
solution.
It
might be considered that the latter case has long been extant, and includes the
ancient methods of iterative calculation of the values of “purely”-quantitative
“irrational” numbers, such as “Heron’s Method”, and the ancient
Mediterranean method of «Anthyphairesis». These methods are “algorithmic”, in
that they involve exact mathematical recipes for each of their iterations. But these methods are also “heuristic” in that they provide, not a single, unique, and uniquely correct
value, but a potentially-infinite [in Aristotle’s sense] sequence
of improving approximate values, with each further increment of their
iteration.
However, the ‘algorithmic heuristic’
that we have
most in mind, here, is the “purely”-qualitative method of
solution for ‘categorial combinatoric’ problems which we call
the
