PRESENT
TIME:
Its
‘Intra-Duality’
&
Dialectic.
Part 12.:
Cases of Dialectic Series.
Dear Reader,
For the final part of this series,
we focus on a systematic dialectic of time itself; a systematic
dialectic of the rich, differentiated ontological content hidden in present
time; in each unit of that “passage of time” which we call “present”.
The present of time is a
continually fleeting “moment” of time, always eroding into the past – always becoming-past
– while also drawing into actualization, and drawing from, its potential future,
to replace, as new present, the now that it has lost to the past, and, thereby,
also continually forging the present seeds that will constitute and grow as the
future.
The present is also, in part,
a gift of the past, a present ‘pre-sent’ from the past to the now.
There is thus a tension, an ‘intra-duality’,
in the humanly- experienced present, between the ‘past-ness’ and the ‘now-ness’
of the present.
This internal contrariety is
resolved in the present by the combination, the “complex unity”, of that ‘past-ness’
and/with that ‘now-ness’, in which, via the action solely accessible in the now
– impossible in the settled past and in the not-yet-extant future – by which
the present materials, the ontological content of the present, act among and
upon themselves, changing themselves, and thereby sowing the seeds that will
become the future.
