‘A Mathematics of Meaning’ -- Part 08: ‘The Seldon Files’ Series.

A Mathematics of Meaning-- Part 08: The Seldon Files Series.

Dear Reader,

It is my pleasure, and my honor, as an officer of the Foundation Encyclopedia Dialectica [F.E.D.] Office of Public Liaison, and as a voting member of F.E.D., to share, with you, from time to time, as they are approved for public release by the F.E.D. General Council, key excerpts from the internal writings, and from the internal sayings, of our co-founder, Karl Seldon.

The eighth release in this new such series is posted below [Some E.D. standard edits have been applied, in the version presented below, by the editors of the F.E.D. Special Council for the Encyclopedia, to the direct transcript of our co-founder’s discourse].

In this 8th installment, Seldon describes a key distinction between the F.E.D. first arithmetic for dialectic, and the ‘‘‘first standard arithmetic’’’, that of theNatural Numbers, N, from which the F.E.D. first arithmetic for dialecticis born.

This key distinction continues to apply to the other standard axioms-systems of arithmetics, e.g., those of the W, Z, Q, R, C, and H number-systems.

Those other standard arithmetics are also spawned from the N arithmetic, but in a different direction of its ideo-ontological self-propagation.

The latter direction is ‘‘‘orthogonal’’’ to that direction of its ideo-ontological self-propagation that produces the meta-system’ -- or dialectical categorial progression «qua» dialectical axioms-systems progression -- of the F.E.D. arithmetics for dialectic.

Seldon --

The NQ algebra is an algebra of/for meaning and of/for meanings.

Its algebraic unknowns, its symbols to be solved for, are solved by discovering/finding their meaning.

That meaning is not restricted to the narrow confines of abstract numbers, of quantities without qualification, of the unqualified quantifiers that the standard algebras solve-for.

The NQ algebra’s meanings are about qualities -- albeit qualities without quantification -- about unquantifiable qualifiers.

It thus takes a second step toward concreteness, toward an ideographical language able to express qualifiers that are also quantified, quantifiers that are also qualified, quantified qualifiers that are also qualified quantifiers.
