GLOBAL STRATEGIC HYPOTHESES.

Dear Reader,

It is my pleasure, and my honor, as an elected member of the Foundation Encyclopedia Dialectica [F.E.D.] General Council, and as a voting member of F.E.D., to share, with you, from time to time, as they are approved for public release by the F.E.D. General Council, key Encyclopedia Dialectica themes of Seldonian Theory.

The 3rd text in this new such series is posted below [Some E.D. standard edits have been applied, in the version presented below, by the editors of the F.E.D. Special Council for the Encyclopedia, to the direct transcript of our co-founder’s discourse].

Seldons Slogans, #3 --

Alternativity Abounds!

M.D.: How I see this slogan is as follows.  I see it as arising via the ‘trans-Boolean’ character of the dialectical cognition of experiential actuality.

For the Boolean «mentalité», there can be no alternatives.

For that «mentalité», there can be only one truth, one right way, one optimal form of existence.

That «mentalité» can, at best, at most, be described as two-valued, as ‘exo-dualistic’, because, if, for a given Domain, x = 1, the x’s only other, its opposite,

(1 – x),

is 0; i.e., x is everything, is the [whole] “Universe”, whereas (1 – x) = 0, is “Nothing”.  This is not even Manichean.  It is ‘monolithism’.

But experienced, empirical, objective reality – other than, perhaps, the ‘object-ification’ of Boolean logic-theory in ‘Boolean computers’ – modern digital computers – is far from monolithic.  It is multi-valued, and of multiplicity typically far greater than 2.  It is multifoliate.  It is positively replete with ‘alternativity’.

Even “quantum computer” logic is three-valued.

Even the “standard arithmetics” – those of the number-spaces N, W, Z, Q, R, C, H, G, K, and S, … [ordinal color-coding added by F.E.D.] – are far more than ‘three-instanced’.

Even the simplest dialectical categorial progression is ‘triply-ontic’ – ‘«arché»-category’ + ‘first contra-category’ + ‘first uni-category’, and the most important such progressions have a ‘multi-adic’ ontology far richer than merely ‘tri-adic’.

Moreover, even the “Standard Model of Particle Physics” features far more than a ‘mono-adic’ flora or fauna of “particles”.

The periodic table of the atomic elements features far more than one species of atom.

Moreover: the species – and the viable evolutionary niches – for prokaryotic cell species, for eukaryotic cell species, for multi-eukaryotic organisms, for social organisms, and for human-social, ‘meta-social’ organisms, are not only manifold, but myriad.  If only the Terran humanoid species of Homo sapiens sapiens survives on planet Earth today, it survives in many languages, in many social formations, in many ethnic groups, in many religions, many philosophies, and supports many fields of science and mathematics, that are all present and viable to this day.

These may exhibit varying degrees of viability.  E.g., some languages may be more viable, in their potential support to expanded human societal self-reproduction, to human ‘onto-mass self-reproductivity’ – to collective,meta-Darwinian fitness’ – than others.  But even the spoken human languages with the greatest potential to support such viability may lose out in the end, because other factors that figure in the making of ‘societal self-re-productivity’ may prevail.

In any case – in all of these cases – one may perceive that many kinds are viable, that, indeed,

alternativity abounds, and that each kind in this variety and diversity may be made more viable by the presence of, and by interaction with, many other kinds.

This is all reminiscent of the many maxima and minima landscapes of the solutions to nonlinear integro-differential equations.  Unlike linear integro-differential equations solutions-landscapes, the nonlinears typically exhibit many “local” maxima and minima, even if they also house a global maximum and/or minimum.  Each of those local extrema may represent a viable ‘dynamical niche’ for a different local ‘sub-solution’.
